New York. 5 days. 1 stomach. 8 bowls of ramen. Day 2. Time for breakfast!
I love the idea of a breakfast ramen and couldn’t wait to try it. I went back to Gotham West Market the next morning and ordered the “8AM Ramen,” described as having Taylor ham, dashi & cheddar fondue, scallion omelet, and thick whole-wheat noodles. Sounds good to me!
The creamy, cheesy ramen is really more of a pasta, especially with the chewy noodles, and the soup is more of a thick, heavy sauce. The ham is meltingly tender and delicious. The thin, delicate slices of scallion omelet adds a tasty contrast to the heavy ramen. Every once in a while, there’re crispy ham-bits reminiscent of bacon bits that give your taste-buds a pleasant wake-up call. It’s a great, hearty meal to start the day, especially if you’re a lumberjack. Me, I was sorely tempted to hop back in bed after such a big meal.
Ivan’s 8AM Ramen is served from 8am (surprise!) to 11:30am every day.
