New York. 5 days. 1 stomach. 8 bowls of ramen. Day 4.
Chuko Ramen, not to be confused with Bar Chuko just a block away, seems to be one of the hot spots of ramen in Brooklyn. Even on a weeknight, there was at least a half hour wait. Luckily, I was by myself and was able to get in within 5 minutes. Yay!
There may be a wait to get in, but once in, service was fast and friendly. Since it seems to be a law that every ramen shop in NY needs to offer pork buns, I ordered a pork bun.
Chuko Ramen’s warm pork bun comes with a tasty fatty piece of pork and has a tangy mayo sauce. The crunchy cucumber slices and radish make it refreshing.
The shoyu ramen is a bit basic and the soup has a hint of ginger. The skinny noodles were on the soft side, but the egg was good. The chashu was the same thick kind used in the pork bun with a good blend of fat and lean meat. For menma lovers, there is an huge amount of deliciously crunchy menma to go with the ramen.
Go for the ramen, stay for the pork bun, and remember to add the garlic oil they provide you to the ramen for some extra flavor!
